Top Ten Tuesday #15: Top Ten Things I like/dislike About Romance in Books

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday. This meme is created and hosted at The Broke and The Bookish. Every week there is a new top ten list for bloggers to take part in and enjoy!

There so many things I love about Romance in books. but there is an equal amount of things I hate in it... So I decide it to split this post up to like-dislike. Hope you enjoy!

LIKE

1. From Best Friends to Lovers

For me, Best Friends to Lovers romance is the sweetest and most beautiful romance there is. The fact that the two main characters already know each other so well, know what makes each other laugh, how to comfort one another... It's so sweet!

2. From Hate to Love

Some of my favorite books contain 'Hate-to-Love' romance! These Broken Stars, Obsidian, Angelfall... I love the process of going from 'enemies' to friends and eventually falling in love!

3. All those Fluffy adorable moments

Something you should know about me, I love fluff. All those mushy moments every romance has? I live for them! These moments are so sweet and adorable!

4. Forbidden Love

I don't know what it is about forbidden romance but I love it. I love the whole process of the characters struggling to find a way to be together and all the sweet moments in between and then, at the end, when they finally can be together... I love the feeling it gives me. The urge to start jumping around and fist-bumping the air! ......yeah, I'm weird....

5. Slow Burning Romance

I admit it! I love to suffer when it comes to romance! I'd rather it be slow, frustrating and well-developed than fast and unexplained.

1. Insta-love

Oh how many times this has ruined a perfectly good book for me! I just can't do it! I'll leave it at that.

2. Undeveloped Love Triangle

Don't get me wrong, I love a good love-triangle. But if the person the main character will choose is literally holding a sign that says 'IT'S ME' well then.... I need conflict! I want both characters to have equal chances!

3. When It Happens At the Last Page

No. Nononono! I literally cannot stand it when the characters get together in the last page! I have spend the past 200-300 pages dealing with all their frustrations and problems and I demand at least an extra chapter of them being together! Romance isn't only the process of the couple getting together but also them being together!

4. Alpha Male

If there's something I hate more than insta-love is an alpha male. Jealousy, possessiveness... Yeah,no.

5. Damsel in distress

Lastly, I want my main characters to be able to stick for themselves and not call their 'boyfriend' for help every five minutes! I need them to be independent and kick-ass!

  1. I love it when the characters actually start as friends because then they already know so much about each other.

  2. Insta love, love triangles, and damsels in distress made my list this week too! Both people in a relationship should be equal and help each other, not with a dominant and a reliant. That just makes the "partnership" seem weak and completely fake. I'm with you on fluffiness, too, I think that's what all us readers are looking for in a light romance:)

    1. I hate it when the male interest turns all possessive! It really kills the romance in the book... Oh, what would we do without contemporaries and their fluff!

  5. I absolutely love your list, it's spot on to exactly how I feel about romance in books. The friends to lovers and hate to love are two of my favourite kind of romances. I am also a huge fan of the slow burning ones. I can't stand insta love or love triangles and alpha males completely infuriate me.

    1. Thank you! I really can't stand insta-love either! I recently read a book and while it was really good and probably a 4 star the insta-love really spoiled it for me! Ended up giving it 3/5....
