We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Plot:   A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.

Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

We were Liars was my first time reading a suspense novel and it was the perfect book to introduce me to this genre! This book was amazing for a number of reasons.

Let’s start off with this:

This. Book. Has. A MAP!
Fun fact about me: If a book has a map I’m already loving it! Judge me all you want but a book with a map is my guilty pleasure!Yet this book didn’t just start off great! With an intriguing plot and a writing style full of emotion in conjunction with the main character’s habit to use fairy tales so as to describe the events happening in her life, this book kept getting better and better!

Another thing that amazed me about this book is that, In sight, this book seems pretty thin and gives you the idea that you’ll fly through it in just a few hours, (which you will, but for an entirely different reason) but E. Lockhart’s mesmerizing writing made this 200 and something page book feel like a 350 plus one!

General thoughts: A well-written, full of mystery and quite a bit of suspense novel, We Were Liars, is definitely a book that keeps you at the end of your seat wanting more!

  1. Ugh, this one has been on my TBR list since before it came out! I got an arc copy of it, but April & May were crazy months for books, so I never actually read it. And now I'm seeing it everywhere ALL THE TIME! I really have to squeeze it in somewhere. I also love when a book has a map. It makes it somehow more imaginable, like I know exactly what the writer has been writing about. Great review!

    1. You should definitely try it out! It really deserves all the hype it got! And yes! That's exactly what i love about a map in a book too! You get to see more about how the writer envisioned the world in the book.
